The gathering, which took place in the snow once again after many years, was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Tomáš Kašparovský. The Dean greeted everyone present, thanked them all for coming to spend time with their colleagues and friends, despite the freezing weather, and wished everyone a beautiful Advent. Before ceremonially lighting the Christmas tree, he also took the opportunity to express his sincere admiration for the string trio that provided the evening’s musical accompaniment.
The string trio, represented by three of our brave colleagues, had prepared several compositions for everyone’s listening pleasure. Most of the participants at the event then sang a range of well-known, and lesser-known, carols and Christmas songs with great gusto and joy, accompanied by the musicians. The Society of Naturalists had prepared some entertaining games and a Santa Claus skill trail for the children who braved the frosty early evening to come to Kotlářská with their parents. Traditional Christmas drinks and the taste of Christmas sweets and biscuits also contributed to the evening’s good mood and warmth.
