Sex determination belongs to prime anthropologic characteristics. Nevertheless, the reliability of morphologic and morphometric methods for sexing skeletal remains is limited by a number of diverse factors: pathological disposition, skeletal condition, environmental influences, diet, occupational stress and particularly by biological age. The male and female attributes are not clearly developed in immature individuals and, moreover, decrease with proceeding age. The definite answer can provide the analysis of genes localized on sex chromosomes. The aim of this project is the implementation of sexing method using DNA analysis (amelogenin gene and SRY gene) to the Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University. This method will be used for sex determination of skeletal remains of immature individuals from eneolithic burial–place of the people of the bell-shaped beakers culture from Hoštice za Hanou, which belongs to the most considerable in Europe. At the same time the project will contribute to the extension of education in courses Methods in Anthropology I (Bi7351) and Forensic anthropology (Bi7352) and extend contemporary themes for bachelor, diploma and disertation theses in the frame of science education at the Department of Anthropology.
