Letter from the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University regarding instructions during the autumn semester 2020/2021

Dear students, friends,  I am writing to you to provide important information before the start of the new academic year.  First of all, I want to assure you that the Faculty of Science's entire management is working intensively to ensure that instructions can be carried out at the faculty in the most productive and safe way, and you can start your studies in October. 

A successful publication from our faculty is one of the most influential articles in ACS Catalysis

An article on the topic of machine learning for protein engineering, prepared for the journal ACS Catalysis of the American Chemical Association by Dr. Stanislav Mazurenko from our Loschmidt laboratories, was selected as amongst the 25 most influential articles in the 10 years journal history.

Czech Television report: a world-class astrophysicist moves to Brno

An astrophysicist of world renown will be undertaking research at Masaryk University in Brno since this summer. Originally from Slovakia, Norbert Werner is coming to south Moravia thanks to a special grant. He will be researching intergalactic gases here and wants to cooperate with Brno companies focused on the space industry.

ČT 24: Brno researchers use artificial intelligence to investigate thousands of possible anti-coronavirus drugs

Researchers from Brno have proposed several existing and approved drugs that could prevent the coronavirus binding to human cells. The drugs were identified while researching proteins using artificial intelligence, which also has the potential to identify new drug structures.

The first astrophysicist to observe the cosmic web is coming to Brno

The universe has fascinated him since he was a child. He studies the influence of black holes on the evolution of galaxies, discovered an explosion that can only be beaten by the Big Bang and was the first to use X-ray telescopes to observe the fibres of the cosmic web. Now, the world-renowned astrophysicist Norbert Werner will be joining the space research centre at our faculty.

Fulbright Scholar Martin Toul: I was literally thrilled with protein engineering

Martin Toul graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University. He is continuing his Doctoral studies at the same faculty in the Molecular and Cellular Biology and Genetics program. He will now enrich his successful scientific career with a four-month research stay at the University of Texas in Austin (USA), for which he managed to obtain a prestigious Fulbright scholarship.
