This project of complex studies of biomacromolecule interactions with electrically charged surfaces is based on the recent progress reached in the proposers' laboratories (see the text) in the development of the electrochemical techniques and in the stud ies of interactions of nucleic acids and proteins with the mercury electrode and solid surfaces. In this project basic information about the adsorption/desorption, redox properties and structural features of DNA, RNA, oligonucleotides, proteins and small peptides at interfaces will be obtained. As a result of these studies electrochemical ultramicromethods will be developed including (a) fast response sensors of the DNA damage (b) fast response sensors of the DNA hybridization c new methods for studies of the interaction of DNA with specific proteins and anticancer drugs, etc. In addition information about the DNA local structures in neurological genetic diseases and about the DNA-p53 protein interactions in human cancer will be obtained.
